Barons Palms Resort - First impressions can be deceiving, this hotel has all the serenity the holiday company predicted, on provision your don’t scratch the surface.
Could not fault the welcome or the efficiency of the door staff , our luggage was in the room by the time we signed in and were shown to it.
The cleanliness of the room and the maintenance during our stay was what I expecte, only had one minor fault a noisy fridge which we solved by switching it off at night.
We went to relax and the percentage of our time we were allowed to, but every day as you were lying at the poolside you were hassled by a team of men from the massage rooms touting for business.
Next the pools looked great but were unusable due to the lack of heating, if you went in, you were chilled to the bone. The word went around that the heating had failed, but wasn’t that convenient it was at that time they decided to paint the water feature which the heated water was pumped over. I do not have a handle on my back therefore do not expect to be treated like a mug, honesty is always the best policy and had the hotel or the holiday company apologised for the inconvenience I would have respected them better.
The variety of food on the menu was what I expected for a 5star hotel and they done a weekly rotation of menus.
Once again they failed to maintain standards, the waiters were over zealous and were to quick to clear the tables.
Five times while we were there when we went to get our next course we came back to find our table had been cleared and was being set for the next guests. Worse than this they seem to think its part of the holiday package that you should get an upset stomach, the main meal in the evening is served from 6.30pm till 10.00pm. If you don’t get in early don’t expect your food to be served at the temperature required. Several times over the holiday we were not in the dining area until late, taking what should have been hot food only to find it look warm.
All the time I was there I never once seen a member of the kitchen staff going round the cabinets with a temperature gauge and probe checking that the food being served had not fallen below the minimal temperature required.
Finally I reported faulty external electrical wiring to the hotel staff, but once again I was ignored, external floodlighting which was soaked every day by the sprinkler system had wiring jointed with insulating tape. All the cleaning equipment on site was the same vacuums, buffers and scrubber driers all had there fare share of insulating tape stuck to the cables.
Some unlucky person is going to be seriously injured here if standards are not maintained as we would expect in the UK and EEC.
